Open yourself up to the wonder of winter. Cross-Country Skiing is a great way to get out and experience the joyous side of winter while also getting some easy exercise. Everyone is invited to join the Columbia Gorge Chapter for FREE Cross Country Ski Lessons on Saturday, January 21, 2017.
Anyone interested in learning to cross country ski is invited. Please RSVP to Skip at skipandjan@charter.net. Meet at 10 AM at Skip and Janet Tschanz’s house, 420 West 10th Street in The Dalles.
Rental Nordic skis, boots and poles are available ($25) at Doug’s Sports or Second Wind in Hood River.
What’s required:
- A strong sense of adventure and the ability to have a lot of fun!
- An ability to safely engage in active outdoor winter activities.
Note: Nordic skiing exercises the major muscle groups. Beginners should have moderate physical ability and know their limitations.
What to bring:
- Skis, boots and poles: available at local sport shops. We strongly recommend properly sized no-wax skis with well-fitting boots and poles. If you are using older equipment, check the integrity of the boots and bindings.
- Dress in layered, moisture-resistant wool or synthetic clothing: socks, winter weight underwear, second layer shirt, sweater or fleece, pants, wind breaking water repellent shell jacket, warm gloves and hat. Our winter weather can vary from sunshine to sleet and snow. Be properly prepared. Leave all of your cotton clothing at home.
- Backpack: carry water, food, extra gloves and hat, with room for doffed clothing.
- Sno-Park Permit: required for parking at any Sno-Park. Check the internet for issuing outlets. Some carpooling will be available.
We also invite you to become a member of the Oregon Nordic Club – Columbia Gorge Chapter, just $15 for a single or $25 for the whole family
