Tilly Jane Phase 3 Work Party News
The Tilly Jane Phase 3 restoration project is set for this summer and we need YOUR help. As most of you know, we’ve been raising money and planning to rehabilitate the cabin for continued public usage now and into the future.
How you can help:
Phase 3 is set to begin on August 6th 2018, and run for 4-6 weeks. We will need 4-6 volunteers per day (M-F) for full day shifts (9am to 4pm) during this time frame. In addition, we will need help with one weekend volunteer event on July 14th, again 9am to 4pm. No special skills are needed, just a willingness to come out and help. Follow this link to the calendar to sign up for your volunteer shift! Please focus on signing up for a day during the beginning of the project versus later in the schedule. We’ve got lots of spaces to fill though and welcome the help if you can’t book an early date.
When: Aug 6th – Sept 14th and July 14th
Time: Meet at the cabin, 9am-4pm
Bring: Lunch, water, work gloves, sturdy boots and appropriate clothing for the conditions at elevation
Sign Up: Work Party Calendar – https://onc-pdx.org/events/
What we will be working on:
Volunteer help is built into the project plan and critical to the budgetary success of this work. WE NEED 4-6 PEOPLE PER DAY to support the contractor and 20 for the weekend work! Please share the word and gather your friends and fellow cabin mates and sign up for a volunteer shift! Better yet, volunteer to lead a crew! Contact me at: reservations@tillyjanecabins.
Phase 3 work includes installation of the remaining rock footings and rafters, rebuilding the alcove wood room walls, restoring or rebuilding the log ends, stabilizing the gable roofline, and culminate in the installation of a new cedar shake roof. This is expected to be the single largest body of work and will complete the structural stabilization portion of the restoration projects. We’ll also begin work to rehabilitate the TJ Guard Station Garage with repairs to the foundation and installing a new roof. Remaining A-Frame projects include the installation of a new composting toilet, enhancing the sleeping loft access, addressing the balcony railing system, and replacing the deteriorated siding among other projects.
We’ve completed the installation of 4 of the foundation rock footings and 8, ridge to ground rafters in the summer of 2016 (Phase 1). 2017 (Phase 2) saw the addition of a new security gate system before the fires closed the forest and 2018 will see phase 3 of the cabin restorations.
Thank You
